Jean Peters
EVA Board Member, Elder Care IQ
Jean educates and empowers families to ensure that all Minnesota vulnerable adults receive safe home and long-term care. Jean became motivated to improve the long-term care system for elder Minnesotans after her own mother was abused and neglected in an assisted living facility here in Minnesota.
Â
Prior to becoming a founding member of Elder Voice Advocates, Jean worked in multiple health settings as a Forensic Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Her knowledge of the health care system at large along with her personal experience has allowed her to identify and advocate for solutions across legislative and medical settings. She also has a Certificate in Value Proposition Design from the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship.
Â
She has held numerous advisory positions including the Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH) Home Care and Assisted Living Advisory Council, the MDH's Electronic Monitoring work group, and the AARP's Elder Abuse Prevention work group. Most recently, and as a direct result of Elder Voice Advocates work, she served on the Minnesota Department of Health’s multi-disciplinary work group to establish assisted living licensure law in Minnesota, the last state in the nation to do so. She is the owner of ElderCamNurse.
Jean and her sister Kay honor the life of their mom, who was one of many loved ones lost to abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
